Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Reopens the Forest Preserve Inspection Station in Chicago

On Sunday, March 16th, State Representative Lindsey LaPointe, and State Senator Robert Martwick presided at a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially reopen the Forest Preserve vehicle inspection station at 6959 W. Forest Preserve Drive in Chicago.

The addition of this station to the inspection program is part of the Chicago Plan, the result of a legislative effort spearheaded by State Senator Sara Feigenholtz to bring inspection facilities back into the City of Chicago. The legislation was supported by Sen. Martwick along with its companion bill in the House, which was introduced by Rep. LaPointe.

The new inspection facility, along with mobile testing units and self-service testing kiosks, are part of the new testing program being implemented by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and the testing contractor, Opus Inspection Technologies. Testing at the new station begins Monday March 17th.

The Forest Preserve inspection station, which was closed in 2016, has been completely renovated and re-equipped with the latest inspection technology. It has 5 high-capacity drive through inspection lanes with 10 testing positions which can provide inspection services for hundreds of thousands of vehicles annually. In addition to the Forest Preserve station, mobile testing vans and self-service kiosks will soon be available in locations throughout the area.

More information on the new facilities will be posted on the program website illinoisairteam.net in the next few weeks.
