Impact
Since the inception of the Illinois Vehicle Emissions Test Program in 1986, the program has played a vital role in improving air quality and protecting public health in Illinois. Over the course of the program, more than four (4) million high-emission vehicles have been identified and repaired, and the program has significantly reduced harmful pollutants by several thousand tons of ozone-forming pollutants annually from our environment.
While we celebrate these achievements, we recognize that our work is far from over. Ongoing challenges in maintaining and improving air quality require continuous effort and innovation. The Illinois Air Team remains steadfast in its commitment to support the state's journey toward cleaner air and a healthier future for all residents. Thank you for your cooperation and efforts in making Illinois a cleaner and safer place to live.
